How do you plan to educate/raise awareness through this initiative?
We will provide statistics and resources on our website about domestic violence, rape and sexual assault. We also have postcards that include statistics and a survivor's story that will be included with each retail order we ship. Through articles we'll write and interviews we participate in we'll continue to raise awareness about how prevalent these types of abuse are in our communities and around the world, and more easy ways to get involved.
How will you raise money?
A percentage of all sales, including retail, wholesale and private label orders will be donated to our non-profit partners. This means every purchase you make will help make a difference in the lives of survivors and help our non-profit partners in their efforts to prevent these types of violence.
Tell me about the Buy One, Give One opportunity.
This is a unique way that our wonderful customers can get involved with Behind The Curtain. We're offering the opportunity to purchase an item for yourself and at the same time purchase a second identical item at a discounted price that will be donated directly to a survivor receiving services through one of our non-profit partners. We'll send the product(s) to the partner organization, and you will receive a receipt from the partner organization for your tax-deductible donation (check with your tax professional regarding tax deductions).
Note that your donation receipt will come directly from the non-profit partner organization and will NOT be included with your purchase from Vintage Body Spa. Note also that in order to send you a receipt, we will share your name and mailing address with them. We will NOT share any additional account information. If you want to make an anonymous donation, please note this when making your purchase.
Customers who participate in the Buy One, Give One opportunity may also receive special discounts and offers from Vintage Body Spa as another way for us to say thank you for participating.
How do I know you'll really send the products to survivors?
As a survivor myself, these issues are extremely important to me. I can also understand from the customer's perspective that they want to be sure their hard earned money is really going to a good cause and making a difference in the life of a survivor. That is why our non-profit partners will be send you a receipt for your donation.
How are spa products supposed to make a difference?
We realize that a soak in the tub or using lotion isn't going to save the world, but for a short time, it can change the world for a survivor and make a lasting impression. Imagine a woman who has left a horrific environment with nothing but the clothes on her back and is now staying in a shelter. She then receives a bottle of luxurious lotion - not a sample sized bottle of cheap lotion filled with chemicals from off a drug store shelf - but a full sized bottle of thick, creamy lotion made from only natural, safe ingredients. As she rubs the lotion over her bruised and battered body, she is reminded that someone out there - a total stranger - thinks she is important and deserves to be pampered. The recognition that she is valuable and important can be an important first step to reclaiming her life and power. The simple act of taking care of herself and pampering her skin will nourish her soul and help begin her journey on the road to recovery.
How can my non-profit agency receive money and funds?
We would love to consider your organization as a non-profit partner. Please send an email to customerservice (at) vintagebodyspa (dot) com and put 'Behind the Curtain' in the subject line. We will then send a brief form for you to fill out, telling us about your organization and the programs and services you provide. We will respond to your request as quickly as possible. We cannot guarantee that an application will be accepted, but each will be carefully considered.
What else can I do to get involved?
We are so glad you want to help in addition to supporting Behind the Curtain! Here are some ideas:
1) Commit to and promote a life of non-violence.
2) Tell others about Behind the Curtain and encourage them to get involved - gather a group of friends or coworkers to pool their money to purchase a gift set or an Indulgence of the Month Club membership.
3) Donate your old cell phones to your local domestic violence shelter or the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence.
4) Volunteer at a local agency that works to combat rape, sexual assault and/or domestic violence.
